Do you believe there are saints in this modern world? What is your defintition of a saint? Have you ever met one (or more)? Do you aspire to be one?

I think saints sacrfice themselves for others. Sometimes for all human kind. I think Sainthood is a matter of degree. Obviously real saints sacrifice their lives, but I think sacrifice for a greater good is not only good for others but yourself. The greatest gift is giving. Receiving is not bad either, but it’s no good without giving.
Yep… but I’m not sure I want to talk about the plight of being one! Pretty certain I don’t even want to think about it. Living in the moment has to be of utmost importance, and sainthood comes from the Grace that unfolds that person, the Eternal using a human to change the existence of man.
Now, of greater pertinence, are you a Saint yourself? : ) Check the mirror!
This comes back to a previous post and response by Michelle about understanding life through knowledge, meaning literature, art, and science. Dostoyevsky wrote a wonderful novel titled “The Idiot’, but it could as well have been “The Saint:”. His protagonist, Myshkin, is out of step with society, but in a Stranger in a Strange Land variety rather than holier than though. Myshkin operates on the fringes. Simply by his presence he allows others to see their lives as they are, in contrast with his approach, without artifice and social affectation. This may be how a saint might operate. One sees truth for oneself througjh looking at life. A slightly warped person, devoid of ego, earnest and caring yet obviously in need of understanding, could open anyone’s heart.
So who is a saint? Not me. But I expect they are around, here and there, just on the edge of existence. More power to them.
Be careful of assumptions… the “I am not a saint”… for I fear there are many among us that will never recognize themselves. They will be doing exactly as you say, and consciousness will explode from their BEing themselves. And whom among us know which or what? I think this is a lot like the Sneeches with Star Bellies in Dr. Suess. Since a saint is doing as a saint does, it matters not whether one is that, or the one affected by that, ‘cause in the end, we’re all One anyway… hee hee hee…
